Northwest Island

Recommended type of dive: Boat and Kayak

How to dive this site: From a live boat - Before entering the water, check the direction of the current, which generally runs northwest on a flood current and southwest on an ebb current. It is best to start your dive on the west side of the island which is deeper with a depth of 100' and head around the island with the current direction to the east side which is more shallow. On the northeast side of the island is a large kelp bed with lingcod, cabezon, greenling and other fish.

From an anchored boat - It's best to dive on slack if you are going to anchor your boat.

As a boat dive - Launch from either Deception Pass Marina on Whidbey Island or Bowman Bay boat launch on Fidalgo Island. Head towards Rosario Head on Fidalgo Island. Northwest Island is just north of Rosario Head.

As a kayak dive - Launch from Bowman Bay and go around Rosario Head. Northwest Island is just north of there.
